Today was a Big Day! February 17, 2011

Item #1: A.J. found the perfect slingshot stick today at the museum walking paths.  We have been researching how to make the perfect sling shot with daddy.  We’ll keep you posted 🙂

Item #2: Selah is so stinkin’ cute. Okay, I guess that’s not really “Big Day” material because she always has been, but I didn’t want her feeling left out.

Item #3: Maddie read a sentence for the first time! (The real purpose of this post 😉 )Actually, it was a title to a book she brought over to me today.  She wanted to know what it was called.  We hadn’t read this book in a really long time, but I wanted to see if maybe she could figure out some of the words by sounding them out.  And she did!  It took quite a bit of time and I realized I never explained what it meant to “blend” sounds together, so I had to quickly try to explain it to her, and she got it!  It was quite a moment of success for both Mommy and Maddie! So very proud of my little girly!  Tonight again before bedtime A.J. asked if we could read the book together (he was proud of Maddie but I think also feeling a bit left-out) and I told Maddie to chime in whenever she wanted to sound out a word.  She did a great job!  By the end she recognized/read  “Jack” ,”Jill”, “and”, “big”, “dog”, “up”, and “Bill”! And not to be outdone, A.J. chimed in too, though I think he just has a great memory and wasn’t really reading. 😉

It felt like such a privilege to witness this “first” with my girly!  At times I don’t take advantage of those “ordinary” moments with my kids as I would like to, so I’m grateful God helped me to slow down and spend that “teachable moment” with my little girl.  And I think it made both of us even more excited for what’s to come!!

Merry Christmas from the Ross Family! December 22, 2010

For many reasons, we have decided not to do a formal Christmas card this year.  So, here is our cyber-greeting 🙂 No, its not the most personal, but know our hearts and minds are thinking of you all, our dear friends and family, this special season.  Have a wonderful Christmas, full of love for the Savior, who came as a baby to save His people.  Merry Christmas!

Selah’s Dedication October 20, 2010

Last month (yes, I’m this behind…and to think I’m TWO years behind in my scrapbooks!!!) we had the honor and priviledge and blessing to dedicate our sweet Selah Marie Lousia to the Lord.  I love this special time with each of our children, to promise to raise our children in the Lord, by His grace and help.  Two things stuck out to me this time as special: 1) Selah was enjoying being next to her friend Lydia.  Lydia is the daughter of dear friends of ours and I love that she already enjoys being near her.  It is my prayer these two girls become great friends and great encouragments to each other. 2) Our family coming up and praying for us and our sweet girlie.  There is something so special about having friends and family surround us and pray for our children and God’s help in our parenting of them for His glory.  So precious.

On the Move… July 24, 2010

We have three movers and shakers over here in the Ross household!  Selah started walking a few days before we left for the beach.  This has been a bit of an adjustment for Mommy 🙂 as she now likes to climb up the steps at warp speed, as well! My favorite new move is when I am cooking or cleaning in the kitchen and I hear her little feet patting over towards me.  Then I feel her arms grab around both of my legs and she squeezes me, shoving her face in between the backs of my knees.  It is such an adorable little toddler hug and grab. I love it!  Her walking is yet another example of God’s kindness towards us and yet another reminder that I no longer have a baby in the house!  We are officially a home of a toddler and two pre-schoolers. Yikes!

Another exciting milestone was in Maddie’s first bike and A.J.’s first scooter!  A.J.’s scooter was his ‘potty present’, which he earned quite awhile ago,  but we’re now only getting him.  He was a very patient little guy.  And Maddie was so huge on her little tricycle that it was only fair to give her an upgrade as well.  Maddie is doing such a great job on her bike!  I have a feeling, before we know it, she will be taking those training wheels off!

Selah’s First Birthday! May 25, 2010

We celebrated Selah’s first birthday on Sunday.  Oh what a fun day we had!  Selah’s party was a “Chica” themed party.  (“Chica” is a squeaking chick hand puppet from the PBS Sprout Morning show.  Selah loves that thing! She will be in the complete other room and hear the squeaking noise, drop whatever she is playing with and ask “Chica?” and quickly crawl into the other room to find her.  When she does see Chica, she claps and says “Chica” over and over again. Its too cute!)

Anyway, here are some pics of the day.  And be warned….I am a complete dork of a mommy.  When I saw they had directions on how to make a Chica outfit, I was hooked and just HAD to make it.  So, that is her “bib” for her cake-eating event.  Which she devoured.  Very seriously, without any smiles or talking! Oh, we love our girly! She has such a cute personality!

Thank you to all of our friends and family who attended the special event.  And a thank you to all our friends and family who carry us, and Selah, in your thoughts and prayers! We love you all!

Some Recent Going-Ons April 24, 2010

We haven’t had anything mind-shattering going on over here in our home…just lots of every day moments, but moments we’re enjoying nonetheless 🙂  This is one of the many reasons I love being home full time with the kiddos.  I get to capture these millions of tiny moments watching them observe, grow, learn, laugh. Oh goodness, I love it!  Here are some recent pictures of whats been going on. I still haven’t figure out how to label these pictures!  The first few capture how Selah’s peas are the exact color of my shirt.  Selah likes peas 🙂  Maddie and AJ model the various uses for handkerchiefs.  Maddie gets all fancy for her ballet pictures. And AJ is our funny guy 🙂
